I just about rolled myself home after this weekend of food and drink debauchery. I ate and drank well in both Brooklyn and Queens, and the only thing that’s getting me off the couch for the rest of the weekend is the finale of ‘Game of Thrones’ – what else?! Among the most notable food adventures for the Weekend of June 15th:
I don’t get to make desserts as often as I’d like, especially after work. I’m also guilty, on the occasions that I do make desserts for myself and not for the purpose of sharing with others, of binging on my treats hot from the oven until I give myself a stomachache. Lame.
In ‘A Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,’ written by Junot Diaz, the Dominican Republic is contrasted to New Jersey by being a land of vibrancy, color, and temptation, with the best of beauty and food contained within its multitudes. His prose describing the foods enjoyed in the homes and the streets of Santo Domingo inspired me to fry up some plantains on Sunday morning.
The three best kitchen investments I’ve made this year are easily my baker’s rack and shelf (essential with my lack of countertop space), slow cooker, and food processor. While I’ve made many a lean chicken dish on Slow Cooker Sunday, I have yet to really play around the new food processor – until this week!
